Every construction work site is prone to
accidents and falls which directly results in every kind of loss to both the
contractor and the workers. Every accident no matter small or big has
implications like it hampers the work speed, low morale and makes the key
workers work at lower efficiency due to injury. Despite of being a developed
country, Australia still has accidents at work site considering the fact that
there have been many laws passed by legislators ensuring the safety of the
workers but everything cannot be controlled at work sites especially when
working at a height which is one of the riskiest place to work because even a
simple fall but from a great height would directly result in death.
There were nearly 60 reported accidents over
1000 workers which mean 1 in every 15 worker meets with an accident. This figure might look small but remember these are just reported cases and whenever
there is an accident the overall productivity of the place suffers. In fact out
of these nearly 80% accident occurred at good manufacturing industries. Here is
the breakup of death with respect to the industry for a better understanding.
• Transport, postal and warehouse: 80
• Agriculture and fishing: 58
• Construction: 23
• Manufacturing: 17
• Admin and support services: 7
• Public Administration and safety: 9
• Mining: 5
• Health Care: 2
In wake of these mishaps, there is really an urgency of work at heights courses for proper training to safeguard lives. This is a brief break up of death occurring
with respect to the industries. With this data the governing bodies can decide
on which sectors have high death rates and what new measures can be taken to
improve the safety of the workers.
