Working At Heights Courses & Rope Access |
Wise usage of ropes have always been traditionally the back bone of working at heights courses syllabus or for any construction related work. Ropes have always been used to make pulleys functional or to load construction work. Since 70’s, Australians have stopped using ropes just for traditional purposes and begun using them to provide safety to the workers working at height.
In those days finding newer construction equipment was tough but providing safety was still the biggest priority. These circumstances where money was a constraint and so was technology, a new form of rope usage came into place called as rope access.
Following video talks about basic rope access when working on height :
The biggest difference in using ropes traditionally and rope access is, for ropes access 2 way ropes are used and if one of the ropes fail or break then there is always a second rope available to prevent the fall. In fact even in this age when workers use most modernized equipment available for construction, the lowest percentage of work place accidents happen when this technique was widely used as compared to today’s gimmicks.
For various works like
- Bill board management
- Windows cleaning of skyscrapers
- Painting
- Installation of various railways signals etc.
- Vacuuming of sensitive areas
- Welding of pillars
- Cleaning
- Maintenance of roofs
- Installation of cable wires across skyscrapers.
Companies have now begun using rope access techniques instead of using useless modern expensive equipment. This access has the country’s lowest work place percentage records. The workers are provided with basic training about how to use rope and rope access before they are allowed to work. In fact many courses have sprung up imparting training about rope access as this prevents accidents and also bring down the attrition rate.
